Free College Program

Hancock Public Schools offers two wonderful opportunities for our students allowing them to earn a college degree, or multiple degrees, at little or no cost.

The first program is the Gogebic Community College Early College program. This program allows our students to earn an associate's degree while still in high school. Participating students earn 63 credits in this three-year program, which begins in their junior year. Students choose from two programs, one with a math-science focus or one with English-social studies emphasis. In the junior year students take two GCC classes each semester and three GCC classes in the senior year.

During the 5th year of high school, students take one on-line class through the high school and spend the rest of the day at Gogebic. When finished with the program students earn a two-year associates degree and have the option to transfer to another university to continue their college education.

The second program is the "Campus and Community: Together for Good" tuition remission program, or more commonly referred to as "The Hancock Award Program." This program is a partnership between the Hancock Public Schools and Finlandia University. The idea of this program is simple. Students graduating from Hancock High School earn a year of college tuition remission for each year they attend Hancock High (1:1 exchange) for up to four years.
